Introduction
Welcome to the Alberta Table Tennis Association web page. We are a not for profit,
registered sports association in Edmonton, affiliated with the Canadian Table Tennis
Association.
Our Mission
ATTA's mission is to promote and support table tennis in Alberta. This is done through a
number of programs, including leadership in coaching, officating, tournaments and sport
demonstrations.
How are we funded?
One third of our budget (e.g., $33,000 out of approximately $100,000 in 1999) is sponsored
by the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation. The remainder comes from
fundraising, memberships and tournament fees.
What do we do?
Much of our efforts are focused on developing athletes towards the provincial team.
Alberta has 2 teams - a Junior Team (17 years of age or under) and a Senior Team
(Alberta's best). These teams will represent Alberta at national tournaments such as the
Canadian Championships, Western Canada Championships and Canada Winter Games. Some
athletes may move on to the national team where they may have the opportunity to play in
World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games or other major internationl
tournaments.
Should you be interested in developing table tennis in your school or community, Alberta
Table Tennis Association can also assist you through sport demonstrations, coaching
development, learning resources (videos/handbooks), experience and loaning of equipment
such as a ping pong robot.
Quick Facts
We have approximately 600 members with 300 or so playing in tournaments. The majority of
our membership comes from clubs with 2-5% coming from individual memberships. There are
normally 5 sanctioned tournaments in one season. In addition, we are also involved in
non-sanctioned events including the Novice Challenge, the Team Challenge and Corporate
Challenge. We have players from the ages of 7 to 77. As part of our membership, 50-60
players are seniors.
