(January 2001)
Objective: The Criteria encourage commitment from the participating athletes to ensure that they acquire formal tactical and technical training.
The selection criteria have two components:
1. Mandatory Participation
All players must attend the following event
- team trial
The only exceptions to this rule are:
- players selected to CTTA training competition programs
illness (coach may request certification by a doctor) players not living in the Calgary or Edmonton areas and have difficulties participating due to such unpredictable circumstances such as adverse weather condition special circumstances (e.g. death in the family) However, the Provincial Head Coach must be notified for any absences in the above events.
2. 2000/2001 ATTA sanctioned Tournaments Designated for Team Selection
Calgary Chinatown Open (September 2/3, 2000) Calgary Open (October 14/15, 2000) Edmonton Open (November 4/5, 2000) Alberta Open (January 6/7, 2001) Points from Competitions
The point system is based designated competition results. There will be four designated ATTA sanctioned Tournaments (as mentioned above) and one team trial.
An athletes 3 best tournament results in the appropriate Mens Singles, Womens Singles or Open Singles will be counted into 60% of the athletes total points. The points awarded for each tournament are as follows:
- First place = 30 points
Second place = 25 points Semi Finalists = 20 points (2 individuals) Quarter Finalists = 10 points (4 individuals) Top 16th Players = 5 points (8 individuals) The top 8 players from the tournaments above will be qualified for the appropriate Mens, Womens Team Trial. The result from the round robin makes up the remaining 40% of the athletes total points.
- First place = 80 points
Second place = 70 points Third place = 60 points Fourth place = 50 points Fifth place = 40 points Sixth place = 30 points Seventh place = 20 points Eighth place = 10 points Therefore, The total points will be calculated as
Total points = Sum of the points from the best 3 designated tournaments × 60% + points from the team trial × 40%
The top three athletes in terms of the total points will be selected as the Provincial Team Members. Others may become alternative team members according to the order of finish.
If an athlete has missed a tournament or team trial, one will get no points awarded. Nevertheless, if any excused absence of an athlete (due to one of the reason described in the previous section under the heading "Mandatory Participation") can significantly affect the ultimate team selection and an athletes standing, the Provincial Head Coach has the discretion to recommend to the ATTC Committee for selection consideration on a case-by-case basis.
Appeal Process
An athlete has an opportunity to appeal to ATTA should there be any conflict with the team selection. The athletes appeal must be submitted in writing to ATTA within 5 working days after the selection has been announced. An Appeal Committee will be appointed by the President of ATTA to consider the appeal.
